HASSIMIR OF URIK
Human [Urikite] Fighter
Race: Human [Urikite] Gender: Male Alignment: CN
Class: Fighter Level: 6 Fighter Archetype: Dervish
Age: 25 Hair: Dark, square-cut main Skin: Fair Eyes: Blue Height: 6’ Weight: 175 lb.
Distinguishing Features: Hawkish nose, shaggy hair.
Faith: AIR (Chan)
Background: Criminal/Spy

Many have heard the stories of Hassimir the Brave, a Urikite soldier and swordsman of legendary prowess, a man of noble blood, belonging to one of the old, revered families of Urik, who became a champion of the common people, protecting them from both criminals and tyrants alike, sometimes alone, and sometimes with his loyal band of valiant warriors. When people hear the name “Hassimir” they think of someone virtuous and charitable, quite handsome, and all-around a great guy. That is why it is a great name for a wandering sword-for-hire.

The original Hassimir, if there was one, would have to be dead, or far too old to go adventuring nowadays. In any case, no one seemed to be using the name, and so, the man who now calls himself Hassimir claimed it, because he needed a new identity, and this one came with great brand-recognition.

He was born “Zaidu”, not to a noble house, but in a brothel, in a Urikite slum to “Seda the gypsy” a woman who was not a Urikite. He never knew his father but was told he was an officer in the army of Hamanu.

Young Zaidu flirted with a life of crime but eventually enlisted in the army himself as a grunt. He was hoping for glory and adventure, but found the realities of warfare horrifying. The worst came when his regiment was sent to teach a lesson to a rebel faction, by sacking a settlement that had given the rebels quarter. His regiment took the town of Farwell easily, but the atrocities he witnessed were too much to bear. Zaidu deserted in the night and never looked back.

Disillusioned with military life, Zaidu returned to the criminal ways of his upbringing. Now styling himself as Hassimir, he seeks fortune and fame however he can. What fortune he finds he quickly spends on wine and women. Forever running from the horrors of his past he is desperate to live in the present, to enjoy life while he is alive and free. Although he is nowhere near as virtuous or refined as the Hassimir of legend, he tries to be heroic in his own way.

It was enough to keep him out of the slave pens for the obsidian quarries in his younger years. He left his life in the village in his late teen years after it was clear he would come to no great acclaim in any capacity in Urik directly and was too curious about Athas and his pursuit of elemental air magics to live a simple village life in Makla.

He grew up within the ranks of nobility in the city-state of Tyr, and as he matured into young adulthood at 13, started taking on responsibilities of the day to day activities of the budding merchant house. But all was not well within the young dynasty. His older brother, Torug, was always jealous of his father’s attention towards the half-elf, and devised a wicked plan to rid himself of this problem….

While on a routine trade journey to the City-state of Nibenay, Tan’s brother Torug hired a band of Gith mercenaries to assassinate Tan, but things did not go as planned for the spiteful older brother. The gith attacked the small caravan, but blood-lust and greed overtook the Gith, and they ended up burning, looting, and killing the entire caravan, including Octavius and Torug himself! Thankfully, Tan managed to escape, and ran into the desert night.

The hermit, a creature named Zhan-Hua-Ti, nursed Tan back to health and saved his life. In thanks, the half-elven young man stayed with the odd little reptile, helping him around the small settlement. It was here that Zhan-Hua-Ti noticed that the boy had an aptitude for magic, being a preserver-wizard himself, began Tan’s training as a mage.

Tan spent years under the Jozhal’s strict tutelage, learning the mystical arcane arts, and the difference between preserving and defiling arcane magic.
